Team Stellar are the victors of this years Grand Challenge, the competition set up by the MoD to find the miltary robots of tomorrow, beating off competition from ten others.
Tasked with seeking out snipers, locating armed vehicles and enemy patrols and finding improvised explosive devies dotted around a village designed for military use on Salisbury Plain teams were given an hour to complete the chore.
The Stellar team, comprising boffins from Cranfield University and a number of small companies, set their high-altitude robotic plane into action to first map out the village then sent in a number of smaller flying craft to buzz between buildings, takes snaps, video and thermal images.
Finally they had an autonomous tank (pictured) for even finer detail amongst the mean streets of the sleepy village which was filled with a swarm of quadrocopters, a scaled down JCB and a mini flying saucer.
