New figures show Blu-Ray will finally out-sell DVD by 2012, marking the tipping point before DVD fades rapidly into history, leaving us free to enjoy a HD-only future.
The statistics come from Futuresource Consulting, and refer to the US optical disc market as a whole.
According to the same figures, however, the UK will be buying 44% of its optical discs in Blu-Ray format by the same time, and it’s likely that a huge push from American studios could nudge the figure higher.
So, that’s digital switchover, the London Olympics, and Blu-Ray becoming a mainstream format, all in one year. Think we’re going to need a bigger TV.
