Media players rarely come with this much wow-factor. Archos’ new media tablets pack in touchscreens, awesome playback features, and can even act as a PVR for your TV!
The brand new Archos 5, Archos 5g and Archos 7 PMPs pack in 4.8″ and 7″ touchscreens respectively, and can even play back 720p HD video if you fork out a bit extra for the required plug-in. They all have HDMI sockets, so you can output HD to a big screen too,
As you’d expect, there’s Wi-Fi inside, and if you plump for the Archos 5g, you’ll be able to slot in a SIM card and get online using a mobile network with HSDPA too.
All of Archos’ new tablets support Flash and Flash video too, letting you browse websites in 800×480 resolution. That means you’ll get twice as much website on the screen of a new Archos as you will on an iPhone or iPod touch, and it’ll play any web-based video too.
All three devices can also record audio and video, with an optional dock to hook them up simply to your home entertainment set-up. There’s even a built in EPG to schedule recordings, and infra-red control means it’ll quickly and simply take charge of your telly or digibox.
The Archos 5g packs 30GB of storage, but costs a whopping £360, while the Archos 7 has 160GB (and that extra screen space) for the same price, or a wallet-wilting £440 for one with 320GB of space.
The best of the bunch, however, is the Archos 5 with 60GB capacity and a price tag beginning at £280. There’s also a 120GB version for £320 and a 250GB model for £360.
