I prefer the PSP (soon to buy the PSP Go!) over the DS Lite/DSi or the iPod Touch. I own all three because certain games can only be purchased on either the DS or PSP. As for the iPod Touch…it is just that, a music and video player.

I prefer the construction quality of the Touch over the PSP (metal and glass versus plastic) but the better external speakers (yes, plural…speakers) on the PSP makes it useful as a desktop radio since no headphones are needed.

If I could only have one, I would choose the PSP Go! Good thing I don’t have to choose.

Ah, I almost forgot. The new DSi idea is really terrible. At least the part where Nintendo has decided to remove multilanguage menus from the DSi, in addition to restricting the online game purchases to a specific region. What year is this 1990? Boo Nintendo. I am considering selling my import DSi just because of the this limitation.

Neotechni: I take your point about the USB hard drive functionality of the PSP, it certainly makes it easier to load with files. But when we compared the devices, we had to do so on their own merits. Not everyone has a PS3, or a Location Free TV box, and since Sony doesn’t include a TV out cable as standard, we couldn’t consider that either. As for ergonomics, we came to a consensus amongst our staff, and personally I’ve owned a PSP, DS Lite, iPhone (2G and 3G) and iPod touch since launch. I love all of them for different reasons, but have to admit the PSP is the only one that causes hand-cramp. Last year I flew to Vegas tapping on my DS Lite most of the way. I struggle to use the PSP for more than an hour at a time. What do you think about Apple’s touch gaming though? It’s completely flexible, but lacks buttons, so can it topple both Nintendo and Sony?

As an owner of all 3, (well, iPod touch not iPhone) I have to disagree with your conclusions.

PSP flat out wins on the multimedia front. You can do so much more with it than ANY handheld media player. Out of the box it supports things like RSS, connecting to PS3/LocationFree boxes over the net and streaming content from them, internet radio, visualizations. PSP actually supports flash. PSPs TV out cables are far easier to obtain. PSP supports higher resolutions and bitrates, has far more media converters available with far more functionality (see XVID4PSP) PSP actually acts like a USB harddrive, so copying media to and from it is far more convenient. I use my PSP for video/photos, and the iPod for audio only. iPod touch/iPhone can’t begin to compete with Remote Play.

As for playability/ergonomics, I can’t disagree more. DS and DS lite are horribly unergonomic. They are designed to be held with one hand (while the other uses the touch screen) and it’s just too heavy for that.

As for multiplayer, DS doesn’t even deserve to be on the list thanks to friend codes.
