As we reported last week, Apple is rumoured to be developing software that will allow the iPhone and iPod Touch to stream music from your home PC’s iTunes library. Well, now you don’t have to wait for it, as SimplifyMedia has brought out an app that does just that.
Available now from the iTunes App Store, it links your iPhone with your home Windows, Linux or Mac computer and allows you to listen to songs via Wi-Fi, 3G and apparently even 2G EDGE. DRM-protected iTunes-purchased songs won’t work, but you can view album art and - here’s the really cool feature - stream music from up to 30 friends’ iTunes libraries too. Apparently that’s perfectly legal, as it’s shared between a specific group rather than the public at large.
SimplifyMedia is free to the first 100,000 downloaders, and will cost $3.99 (about £2.00) thereafter.
