The web is buzzing with reports of Apple’s iPhone 3G suffering poor performance, even in an area where other 3G phones work well.
Reports suggest Apple is well aware of the problem, as are its network partners. The San Francisco Chronicle recounts the experiences of one iPhone owner, who claimed calls dropped when stood in one place,
AT&T spokesman Mark Siegel later went on record with the paper to say the reports were being investigated.
Analyst Richard Windsor from Nomura has weighed in too, claiming in a report to clients that the problems are evidence of Apple’s lack of experience in creating mobile phones.
“We believe that these issues are typical of an immature chipset and radio protocol stack where we are almost certain Infineon is the 3G supplier,” suggesting that, since the problem might lie within the chipset, a firmware upgrade would struggle to fix the problem.
For our part, the iPhone 3G is working out great. O2’s network has been consistently strong, speedy and hassle-free. What’s your experience? Let us know in the comments below.
