Green clothing isn’t all about wearing wicker shoes and hemp underwear. Helly Hansen’s new Eco Labs range shows that sustainable clothes needn’t mean sacrificing your fashion sense, and can be good for business.
The whole range has been engineered to be eco friendly, without compromising performance either. It’s all waterproof, but has been made using non-toxic coatings.
Likewise, all the detailing on Eco Labs items is made from recycled materials. You’d never guess, but each zip, press-stud and fastening is made from re-used plastic.
And that’s not the only change. All Eco Labs designs have been engineered to use as little stitching as possible, cutting down on materials wasted, as well as the energy used to create each piece.
Not satisfied? Helly’s even removed metal eyelets from its eco designs, using reinforced stitching instead.
The range includes outerwear and organic cotton T-shirts printed with water-based dye. The cotton they’re made from is even grown in a field next to Helly Hansen’s factory, reducing transport costs and cutting the firm’s carbon footprint. The end result is a less guilt-ridden garment that also cuts costs for the manufacturer. Having your cake and eating it? Helly’s an expert.
