Batteries not included – or needed. Amazingly, this simple clock will run forever on salt water alone. It gets all the electrons it needs from the solution, so all you need to do is top it up once in a while.
The battery manufacturers won’t be happy with this little development, but it’s hugely satisfying, if you’re trying to reduce your carbon footprint, to have a gadget that’s powered solely by water. It looks as cute as Konami’s Metal Gear Solid 4 alarm clock too. The simple chemical reaction between the electrodes and the saline solution is just enough to drive the LED display. Don’t expect it to sound an alarm as well though.
