We’ve all heard horror stories about Xbox 360s suffering the dreaded “Red Rings of Death” and putting one hell of a dampener on that Pro Evo/Gears of War/GTA IV session, but expert modder Ben Heck believes Microsoft’s new 60GB model may be slightly less prone to dying a horrible untimely death.
Heck got his mitts on a 60GB Xbox and wasted little time in prising off the lid and peering inside. He found that, while the processor and graphics card are the same as those used in the previous 20GB model, the memory chips are no longer bottom-mounted. And as bottom-mounting (oo-er) is said to be one of the causes of the overheating which leads to hardware failure, Heck reckons these new models might be a tad more reliable than the oldies. So there you have it…
The 60GB Xbox isn’t available on this side of the pond just yet, but we’ll holler at ya when it eventually turns up.
