Apple has held previous special events in SeptemberThe invites haven’t even been sent yet, but already some analysts are expecting Jobs and Co to hold a special event next month. On the menu: new iPods and MacBooks.

According to investment bank Piper Jaffray’s Gene Munster, the Mac-maker will hold a special event next month, to continue its tradition of September unveilings for new iPods.

If his prediction holds true, it’ll be the fourth September in a row to have seen a special event from Apple.

Could an aluminium MacBook be on the cards for next month? In the past, it has been iPods that have taken centre stage, and Munster sees no reason for this to change. However, he also expects Apple to debut its much-rumoured MacBook refresh, alongside redesigned MacBook Pro machines.

“We note that the MacBook has had the same design since its launch over two years ago, and the MacBook Pro has had essentially the same design since its launch over 2.5 years ago, which was very similar in design to the PowerBook G4 released over 5.5 years ago,” he explained in a report to clients.

“To compare, the long-running iMac G5 design lasted three years.”

The iPod touch is expected to get a refresh soonAnd those rumours of glass trackpads? Yep, Munster’s got an idea where that’s going too.

“Currently, gestures [on the MacBook Air and MacBook Pro] require the same touch-sensing technology used in the iPhone, but they use a traditional looking trackpad,” he explains.

“Eventually, we expect Apple to change the trackpad to backlit color screens for a more dynamic user interface on the Mac.”

They’re interesting predictions, and ones we hope will ring true. For now though, we’ll have to sit tight and wait to see what Apple’s next move is.
