The iPhone App Store just got its most expensive addition, a tiny app dubbed “I am rich” priced at a whopping $1000, or £550. What does it do? Nothing!
It’s designed simply as a show of wealth. Its creator, Armin Heinrich, said : The red icon on your iPhone or iPod touch always reminds you (and others when you show it to them) that you were able to afford this.”
“It’s a work of art with no hidden function at all.” the developer continues, before revealing that, by tapping the ‘i’ logo, you’ll be treated to a self esteem-boosting mantra which “may help you to stay rich, healthy and successful.”
As we said, it’s completely pointless. But it’s already causing consternation across the web. Some forum posters have raised concerns that the high price, combined with the ease of purchasing offered by the iTunes Store, could leave unwitting customers out of pocket.
Elsewhere, TUAW raises the interesting point: “What you can blame… is the asinine App Store vetting process, which let this dollop of poop into the system. What rocket surgeon thought this would be better than eWallet or ListPro?”
