An internal memo from Steve Jobs to Apple staff reportedly admits failure in launching MobileMe, with Jobs stating it was “not up to Apple’s standards.”
The memo, unearthed by Ars Technica, details Jobs’ regret in launching MobileMe as a “monolithic service” at the same time as the iPhone 3G, iPhone 2.0 software and the App Store.
“We all had more than enough to do, and MobileMe could have been delayed without consequence,” he explained.
“The MobileMe launch clearly demonstrates that we have more to learn about Internet services, and learn we will. The vision of MobileMe is both exciting and ambitious, and we will press on to make it a service we are all proud of by the end of this year.”
Apple is still fighting to claw back trust after numerous glitches in MobileMe since its launch, which include syncing issues, and in some cases, customers having contacts wiped from their iPhones while they’re away from home.
