Another day, another small, cheap, laptop. This time it’s Lenovo’s turn to try and take a swipe at Asus with its shiny new IdeaPad S10. A ten inch display and 1.6GHz Intel Atom chip? You betcha.
With the requisite specs out the way, there are two flavours to try: a $400 model with 512MB of memory and 80GB hard drive and $450 version touting twice as much at 1GB of memory and 160GB spinning disc.
It seems Lenovo is keeping things simple to start with – there’s no SSD models and Windows XP comes pre-loaded (apparently there will be Linux versions in certain areas further down the line). There’s not much earth shattering in the rest of the spec list, with Bluetooth, Wi-Fi, Ethernet, VGA, two USD ports and memory card reader. You do get an ExpressCard slot for expansion, though.
The S10 will hit the States first in September, making its way across the water over here sometime in October.
