Since we first clapped eyes on this canine-like robot at CES wayyyyyyy back in January it has been on our shopping list, trouble is it has only been popping up as a pre-order (how we hate this online shopping tease.)
Wrex is now available from those fine robot purveyors by the name of Argos. Yes, the shop with few shelves and a catalougue that makes the Yellow Pages look wimpish is the first UK outlet to have the canine toy ready to buy. Its all part of their 75th catalogue celebrations, we’re told.
On looks alone Wrex is top dog in the robotic comedy stakes, switch him on and select autonomous, guard dog or remote control mode and enjoy those rolling eyes, moving ears, twisting tail and jaw movements accompanied by a selection of sounds (including a cat meiow).
Choose a mood from his happy, angry or crazy modes to suit which side of bed you get out of in a morning or satisfy one of his needs, those of course being exercise, hunger and call of nature (comedy leg cock and toilet sound guarantees a laugh every time).
The junkyard creation is a modern design classic surely, Wowwee have even bullseyed with the chunky remote control unit.
Sensors stop him from skirting board skirmishes when he runs free, and after a short and simple introduction to your new pooch you’ll be yelling orders, which are obeyed most of the time.
Cheaper to feed than the real thing, less messy, with more comedy value but no-one will say “ahhh isn’t he cute” - So thats 3-1 in favour…..
