This week over at the Science Museum in London they’ve an event called “Emotibots” taking place and one of the stars of the show is this spider-like creation called Hexapod.
The robotic creeper can recognise human faces and then track their movements as they walk around it, scanning a picture of their face and uploading it onto a website, if a human subject holds its gaze long enough it’ll beam the mugshot onto a huge plasma screen for all to see.
The robot, invented by animatronics expert Matt Denton, uses a single camera for an eye and prototypes for it have already been used in a couple of Harry Potter films as Hagrid’s pets.
Museum bosses want the Emotibot exhibition to show kids that not all robots are fictional or related to WALL-E.
