The long-awaited X-Files movie sequel finally hit US theatres today and already secrets of a packed Blu-ray release hinting at BD Live features are being leaked. Writer Frank Spotnitz puts the truth out there…
Apparently Spotnitz was amazed at the capabilities of Blu-ray when he began work on the BD and DVD releases, commenting “I had no idea what Blu-Ray could do. I thought it was just a higher definition picture, but it’s much more than that.” And it looks like he’s been doing his best to fill the disc’s 50GB capacity.
He has already confirmed a gag reel, a making of documentary, multiple commentaries with both audio and video, deleted scenes and an extended version of the movie. But he has also hinted at significant online content that has been made possible by Blu-ray’s new found BD Live functionality. Spotnitz couldn’t give more details on this aspect, but in short, he summed up with, “there will be a lot of extras”. We’re almost as excited about the Blu-ray disc as the UK’s theatrical release next week on August 1st.
