The University of the Basque country in Spain has unveiled its latest creation called Tartalo and it has the ability to recognise different doors and decide before entering whether its necessary to knock.
Using a cyclops eye, well high end webcam at the middle of its 1.5 metre frame, the robot compares doors to its database which notifies it as to exactly which it is standing in front of before making a decision for immediate entry or knock on the door and wait.
Its combination of ultrasound and infrared sensors about its body mean it can also avoid others in corridors as it goes about is business.
The aim of Tartalo is to develop a superior sibling to it that can be given an instruction to go off and perform a task totally autonomously.
It looks like the perfect candidate for dealing with unruly kids at school, requested by teachers, arriving and knocking politely before removing them from lessons and taking them by the scruff of their necks to the exit - And would be immune to litigation.
