Spike may, at first sight, be a fairly simplistic prehistoric playbot for the kids but this remote control dinosaur is a perfect candidate for budding robotosists first hacking project.
As standard Spike roars, grunts, walks and rears up on his hind legs, and all looks pretty impressive in the 27 inch high frame.
Get to the innards however, add in some Bluetooth connectivity, wire him for WiFi ad more LED’s and in some fairly standard hackery you have yourself a slightly more mature beast for your inner-child that can be controlled from a laptop.
So buy one in the guise of a generous uncle/father and let the kids play with it until their extremely limited boredom threshold kicks in then its time to get your tools out and personalise this Fisher Price toy.
All of this does of course all invalidate your warranty, and if the kids you’ve dismantled/dismembered it as a means to your own end forgiveness may be a long time in coming…..Still they’ll get over it.
