Our heart skipped a beat this morning, when Lotus unveiled its brand new sports car at the British International Motor Show. Previously known as the company’s top-secret Project Eagle, come and meet the all-new Evora.
It’s the first completely new Lotus since the Elise debuted in 1995, and sits around a 3.5-litre V6 engine producing 280 PS, and weighing just 1350 kg.
From the outside, it’s eye-popping, but inside it’s even more stunning. The bare-bones interior of the Elise and Exige seem a dim and distant memory next to the Evora. This is a 21st century car, complete with all the bells and whistles you’d expect. Electric windows, buttons everywhere, and a fleshed out dash replace the skinny interiors of Lotuses past.
We even spied Lotus’ all-new touch-screen multi-media system and electric power-fold door mirrors. There’s also air conditioning as standard. You won’t find those treats inside the skinny Elise or its beefier brother, the Exige.
What’s more, the Evora is designed to be more practical than its predecessors. It’s no longer a struggle to get in or out, with wider and taller doors making the exercise, in Lotus’ own words, “a less athletic
undertaking.”
The Evora will be built in England, and just 2000 cars a year will roll off the production line. This is exclusive, British, and beautiful.
