We’d heard this was coming, but now the final details are out: sign up for Orange mobile broadband through The Carphone Warehouse, and you’ll get a free laptop!
The Elonex laptop is exclusive to the store, which is calling it a “WebBook”. It’s a 10.2-inch ultra-portable, packing either Linux or Windows XP on an 80GB hard disk. As you’d expect, there’s built in Wi-Fi, as well as 3 USB sockets and a card reader.
You’ll get your hands on it free, just by signing up to a £25 per month two-year deal with Orange, although you can also buy it as a stand-alone device for £220.
We reckon it’s a pretty good deal if all you’re after is a route to the Internet. Although the Elonex machine’s battery is a little wimpish, with a life of only 2.5 hours between charges.
Still, it can be upgraded with a hard drive, and for £25 a month, we’ve seen much worse deals!
