Nintendo Wii: Now top dog State-sideNew sales figures show Nintendo commanding the console wars, as the Wii overtakes the Xbox 360 as the highest-selling console in the US, while the hugely successful DS Lite continues to lead the pack overall.

The Wii, which snatched top spot, sold over 666,000 in June, compared to the Xbox 360′s 219,800.

“Wii was created with the goal of expanding the gaming universe through its intuitive motion-sensing controller,” said Cammie Dunaway, Nintendo of America’s executive VP of sales & marketing.

With Wii Sports Resort and Wii Music shown at E3 last week, it looks like Nintendo it’s about to change its winning formula either.

“As we have demonstrated this week during the E3 Media & Business Summit, Wii continues to pioneer new ways for people to interact with their video games and with one another.” Dunaway continued.

As well as capturing Xbox 360′s stronghold, it marked a double for Nintendo. The DS was the highest selling games platform, selling 783,000 units in June.
