The UK Border agency have unleashed their latest weapon on the frontline, a briefcase sized robot codenamed HERO has been tested at Calais and is now ready to be deployed across the country.
The battery powered machines can be fitted with an array of equipment to carry to aid its search for concealed people as its scrambles over objects on its four-wheel drive chassis with ease.
The arsenal includes heartbeat detectors, powerful searchlights and high-resolution video cameras to snoop inside and underneath lorries and coaches.
In addition the machine could also have sensory equipment fitted to detect chemical, biological, radiological or nuclear materials being smuggled into Britain.
