Granted, most laptops wouldn’t get a separate piece just dedicated to their power supply. But then, the Voodoo Envy isn’t just any old laptop and its Wi-Fi blasting power brick definitely deserves a closer look.
Since there’s not much space inside the super slim Envy - it’s just 0.7in thick remember - the Voodoo engineers had to do away with the ethernet connection just to fit everything in. Given the wireless world we live in, that’s a reasonable compromise, but could cause you problems if there’s only wired internet access available - like in a hotel room, for example.
The solution? Build a Wi-Fi hotspot into the power supply and you can then create your own wireless network to hop onto. Laptop Mag is still poring over its pre-release model and has put together a quick video on the range you can expect. As you can see, it stretches pretty far:
