We’ve been aware that a proper touch screen Nokia phone is wending its way to market soon, but according to a company bigwig we shouldn’t expect a super-duper high-end handset that only the well-heeled will be able to afford: this is going to be a mass market mobile.
Perhaps wary that it’ll be going up against the much-improved iPhone 3G, Nokia’s Kai Oistamo told a conference call: “Our first touch device will be aimed solely at the volume part of the market.” In other words, they want to ship a lot of these babies.
Oistamo also confirmed that the as yet unnamed phone will be out before the end of 2008. We’re expecting it to be the XpressMedia 5800 Tube handset that’s been spotted on various rumour sites in recent months.
