The 80GB PS3 has only been officially confirmed for the US, but that hasn’t stopped SCEE president David Reeves promising it’ll also come to the UK.
Speaking at E3, Reeves said the revamped console would hit Europe on August 27, costing £300.
“PS3 80GB - we will introduce this in the PAL markets on August 27,” Reeves explained.
“it will be a simultaneous release. It will come in at €399, £299, and we will be doing promotional bundles from the middle of September to the end of December at various prices.”
Finally, Reeves confirmed what we all suspected, that “the 80GB replaces the 40GB.”
It’s a tasty upgrade, but owners of a hefty stack of PS2 games should beware: the new model won’t offer the same backwards compatibility as previous models, rendering your old game discs unplayable.
