The Wii might be a marvelous machine, but its online multiplayer abilities are still poor next to the PS3 and Xbox 360. That could be about to change, however, as Nintendo’s just announced WiiSpeak, bringing in-game voice chat to the console.
Unlike the PS3 or Xbox, WiiSpeak uses a TV-mounted microphone to pick up sounds from anyone in the room. It’s designed to sit on top of the Wii’s existing sensor bar, and be more group-friendly, just like the Wii itself. Once the console is online, the dinky mic will let you chat with friends all over the world.
The first game to use the WiiSpeak add-on will be Animal Crossing: City Folk, due out before the end of the year. Kiss goodbye to text chat. Trash-talking just came to the Wii in full force!
