Fibre optic cables could have us all connecting at 100 megabits by 2012, says the telephone giant.
BT’s outlined plans for a next-gen broadband network using fibre optics to shovel data to our front doors at a whopping 100 megabits per second. That’s over 12 times faster than current lines typically allow, and could mean downloading HD movies in minutes, and songs in seconds.
The project will cost BT £1.5 billion, and in even the most remote locations, BT says it’ll be able to offer 40 megabits per second.
More detailed information is due in September. Keep it here for updates as soon as we hear them.
