Rumours of the gPhone have lessened since Android popped up, with most now believing Google’s content to provide the operating system, rather than the phone. That could be about to change, with fresh murmurs that Google’s getting into the hardware game.
According to Hollywood Reporter writer Dan Cox, Google co-founders Larry Page and Sergey Brin as well as CEO Eric Schmidt have all commented on the possibility of a Google-made handset.
Recounting a conversation with the three search masterminds, he said: “The trio of Google execs… talk about the inroads the company is making with its own branded mobile phone as a replacement for the iPhone.”
It’s hardly conclusive, but San Francisco-based design firm, Ammunition Design Group, is also rumoured to be working with Google to make the product a reality.
According to TechCrunch, “Ammunition Group is designing the gPhone and it is a seriously beautiful device.”
