The BlackBerry Thunder might not pack a hardware keyboard, but that hasn’t stopped the boffins at RIM giving it one of the most advanced text-entry systems around. Word is, it’ll use fancy haptic technology to make touching the screen feel like you’re tapping real buttons.
It’s all down to some fancy electrical signals, that buzz your finger when you press a specific part of the screen. It’s more advanced than other haptic mobiles, which typically vibrate the whole screen, or even the phone itself, to let you know you’ve hit the key.
RIM’s solution is more advanced, vibrating different parts of the screen depending where your finger hits.
The Thunder will also offer either a full QWERTY keyboard when held in landscape mode, or a smaller SureType keyboard when held vertically.
We’re getting seriously psyched about the Thunder. Has RIM got what it takes to topple the iPhone 3G? Keep it here and we’ll keep you posted, so you can make your own mind up.
