Putting aside the tedious and arduous tasks asked of robots and forgetting their ability to entertain, some students at USC have looked to the future and thought “If we’re going to interact with robots every day, lets give them a more human face” - And for them the future looks alot like this.
Growing tired of the standard non-fluid motion of many automatons and certainly far from satisfied by the old LED lightshow offering to show facial expressions this feakish prototype, named simply “humanoid head” has been developed and learns facial features from those it meets.
The university tell us its eyes will follow objects around a room and then lock in and stare, sorry observe whatever its “brain” thinks is interesting enough.
This is the kind of face that’d make me cross a street.
