All the world misses the whole point about the iPhone.

On paper it isn’t any better than an average phone, which has existed for years. But to even COMPARE it to existing technology is to miss the point entirely.

It’s like comparing a Ferrari Enzo, with a souped-up Nitrus Oxide powered Golf GTi. On paper, they’ll do the same speed, but it’s irrelevant. Yet, for the iPhone, even the Ferrari isn’t a strong enough comparison. Here’s why;

The iPhone is the world’s first mobile device which is ‘human’. Each single sale of an iPhone is a triumph of the beauty over complexity.

The iPhone proves that people don’t care about the manufacturers race of pixels, megabytes or other such spec-races. What they care about is the ability to do basic useful things, IN A WAY WHICH COMPLIMENTS their brain, rather than confuses it.

iPhone has forced manufacturers to revisit their entire business strategies, which is absolutely amazing for us all! And so, any comparison with pre-iPhone technology, is pointless.

Every Mac owner has long understood that his Mac is less technically capable and more expensive than PCs. I’ve had Macs for 20yrs, and I’ve always known that. iPhone and iPod put Apple’s philosophy in the hands of millions, and cleverly show them that there IS an alternative to the horrific user-experience of [what will one day be seen as] over-complex, early technology.

I’m certain that Apple’s strategy-department is well aware of this. And it’s Microsoft that should REALLY be afraid of iPhone and iPod, as the next logical step for anyone who witnesses Apple’s philosophy is to eliminate ALL over-complex technology from their lives…and dump their PC!

Why isn’t anyone analysing the i-effect? As iPods and iPhone go up, PC sales will go down.

I hereby declare the User-Revolution Official!!!

Mark, you make some great points. But the iPhone was always designed to replace two objects with one: the MP3 player and mobile phone combined, with the added advantage of proper internet in your pocket.

The trouble is, many people love their phones for the skills the iPhone still lacks.

Take the camera for example. It’s one of the most important parts of a modern mobile. It’s there at all times to record memories and capture treasured moments in users’ lives that simply won’t be repeated.

That’s what’s behind the megapixel race. What’s the point in recording memories with a grainy cameraphone? There isn’t one.

If Apple seriously wants people to ditch every other phone and move to the iPhone, they have to at least compete on the basic specs. The App store proves the iPhone can do amazing things with software, so why can’t it receive MMS messages?

Likewise, Apple must now be one of the largest purchasers of 2 megapixel sensors in the world. If you bought a Mac with a resolution half that of a similarly priced PC, would you be happy? Of course not. They have to compete on the same technical level, and let software win the battle, then Apple will truly have the mobile market sewn up.

I agree with both James and Mark. If I may add; Nokia is getting too complicated and not user friendly. iphone lacks normal bluetooth, copy & paste, voice dialing, removable batteries and average camera. another important determining factor is the cost! If the iphone will cost less i’ll go for it! By the way N96 lacks good battery copared to N95 black. An it also lack xenon flash comparing to N82! Why can’t a single manufacturer have it all in one device :)

how anyone can think the iphone is a brilliant phone is just madness. my friend has a iphone and he is very disappointed with it i have had a go on it and i think it is good for 1 thing the internet and that it the music player on it is the same as on a ipod the camera on it is worse than my 3 year old phone you cant record videos on it, the game (appliance) on it are boring it just simply a poor phone.when the original iphone came out i wanted 1 but then i saw the price so i got a much better phone the lg ku990. when the new iphone came out i was amazed the only difference was it had 3g and i cant believe people are buying this rubbish phone if you want a touch screen phone then get the lg kc910 if you want a camera phone (then of course you wont want the iphone)then you will want ether want the lg kc910 or s.e c910 or the samsung i8510 and if you want a a multimedia phone then you will want the nokia n96if you want a gaming phone then again you’ll want a n96, if you want a smart phone then again n96, if you want a phone with a qwerty keyboard then i would get the s.e xperia and if you want a cheap paug phone then i would get the s.e. w910 but if you just want a very very good all round phone then defiantly get the NOKIA N96
