In just a few days the iPhone Application Store will open its digital doors, and we’ll be able to download new software to our hearts’ content. But what sort of software do you want?… Here are our most wanted iPhone apps.
We’ve wracked our brains and cooked up a wishlist of must-have iPhone apps below. Anything you want to add? Feel free to chip in in the comments section.
1. iWork Mobile
Steve Jobs says the new iPhone software can now recognise all Microsoft Office and iWork documents. All that’s missing now is a proper app to edit them with. iWork Mobile anyone?
2. Back to my Mac
The new iPhone 3G is super quick, so can we have an app to tap into our Mac back at home? We’d love to see its desktop beamed to the iPhone’s touchscreen, no matter where we are. Pretty please?
3. iMeasure
An on-screen ruler can be re-sized to measure tiny objects, while the accelerometer acts like a digital spirit level. The iPhone just became a builder’s best friend!
4. SmartCommute
With GPS, the iPhone can guess our daily commute to and from work automatically. It knows we usually leave around 5-ish, so it can automatically shout up if traffic hits our favourite roads at 4:30. Similarly, it knows we always stray from our home Wi-Fi at 8am. It can guess that’s when we leave for work, and let us know if we need an umbrella just before we leave.
5. GarageBand Mobile
Yeah, we saw Band demoed in Steve Jobs’ keynote, but what about an app that lets us plug in a proper mic or guitar to record songs with our own instruments. Perfect for an impromptu jam on the tour bus. Or any old bus for that matter.
6. iJogger
The iPhone’s accelerometer could be set to recognise regular movements, sussing out the patterns in your jog to accurately measure strides. Think of it as a high-tech pedometer, with GPS built in to track your speed, distance and altitude. Run that through some clever maths and the iPhone can tell you how many calories you’ve burned too.
7. iWeb mobile
Maintain your iWeb blog, add new pages or set up a whole new site using nothing but the iPhone and it’s all-powerful software.
8. iRadio
The iPhone lacks a built in FM tuner, but who needs one with a speedy internet connection? iRadio could tap into thousands of station using Wi-Fi or 3G connections.
9. Photoshop mobile
Taking pictures is one thing, but we want to edit them on the go too. Removing red eye, adding devil horns. You know, the usual.
10. iBank
Forget hunting for a cashpoint to check your balance, use iBank. It’ll integrate with your existing internet banking service, and present statements and account info in an easy to read format, while remaining 100% secure.
