Rumour has it Apple’s gobbling up flash memory like a fat kid in a bonbon factory, leaving other mobile makers struggling to crank out their own products.
According to DigiTimes, Apple just placed a massive order for 50 million 8GB flash chips from Samsung, the world’s largest supplier of solid-state storage. It’s believed they’re intended mainly for use in iPhones, so Apple has plenty of supply when once the handsets go on sale next week.
As a result, other customers are being pushed down the priority list. Samsung’s even reported as warning smaller firms it will “sharply cut supply” of the all-important chips while it fulfils Apple’s order.
Sounds like there’ll be tons of iPhones to go round then, and O2 needn’t worry about rationing them!
