It might have been saddled with the name of a four legged pack carrier but the MULE (Multifunctional utility/Logistics & Equipment) is an incredible fighting machine that’s set to change the face of warfare.
Rolling in at the size of a Humvee this Lockheed Martin invention is being taken through its paces at a test site in Texas.
All of its functions are controlled by a single soldier with a handheld unit akin to a PlayStation pad.
Its arsenal of weaponry could certainly give any console game creation a decent kicking, javelin anti-tank missiles and turret-mounted machine gun with a digital eyeball that heat-seeks its targets before taking aim.
A semi-autonomous machine the MULE uses GPS to navigate around enemy territory and six wheels mounted on pneumatic legs allow it to climb over cars and barriers with ease.
Set to start mass production in a couple of years Lockheed Martin have an order of 1,700 from the US army.
Unfair fight? So what!
