Life with PlaystationWe already told you about the movie download service Sony earlier announced, another new feature also unveiled was “Life with Playstation”. No, it’s not some Hogan knows best style reality TV show, it’s a weatherman baiting forecast and news service.

It might look similar to the Wii’s very own Weather Channel but Sony Computer Entertainment group CEO Kaz Hirai was quick to play it up as a real-time location-based news service.

On top of weather forecasts will be detailed information on individual cities.

“It’s only the PS3 that can provide such a unique experience,” Hirai explained.

“Life with PlayStation proposes a new lifestyle for PS3. As many people turn on their TVs in the morning when they wake up, users can use their PS3 to download worldwide news in real-time or check weather and temperature of travel destinations,” he said.

He also spoke of a new method of storing photos and other multimedia.

One of the more interesting tidbits was being able to store photos, possibly on a world globe, on screen, according to where and when they were taken.

“In the future, we’ll build a system that can virtually present stored photos or movies according to recorded time and place, allowing users with their friends and family to enjoy them visually in chronological order.”

It might sound boring, but imagine looking at a globe and seeing thumbnails of photos we’ve taken on our hols, with each country acting as a photo album. We reckon that’d be quite cool.

Users can also change the background music while browsing the feature and even check out news articles from other countries, further connecting the world.

Before you can start singing “I’ve got the whole world in my hands”, a release date has yet to be mentioned. As you’d expect we’ll let you know more as soon as we hear it.
