He brought cyclone-packed vacuum cleaners to our living rooms, and now James Dyson wants to put electric motors into our cars, powering our journeys using solar electricity to dodge rising fuel costs.
Sound fanciful? It’s not. Dyson says beefed-up versions of his vacuum cleaner and hair dryer motors could power cars, while their batteries are charged every night with solar cells on top of the garage.
He hopes to pair up with Honda, or other manufacturers, to get electric cars on British streets, and engineers at the Wiltshire-based company are currently beavering away to make it happen.
Speculation that Dyson cars will also hoover stray leaves from streets as they go is, so far, unsubstantiated.
