Android LogoWhat’s that? You’d heard Android was facing delays? Us too, but Google’s gone official with a statement that it’s on track, and will land on new handsets before the end of the year.

According to the Big G, its mobile operating system is ”on schedule and we’re very excited to see the momentum continuing to build behind the Android platform among carriers, manufacturers, developers and consumers.”

So much for a late arrival in 2009. Google says it’s on track to deliver the first handsets before the end of the year, most likely through T-Mobile.

In the meantime, its open-source attractiveness might’ve just taken a blow, with news that Symbian’s going open source, to encourage more development than the 4 million coders already creating apps for it.
