We’ve been harping on about it for quite some time, and now in-game access to the PS3′s Cross Media Bar, or XMB, as well as the much-rumoured trophy achievements are official. It’s like having our birthday and Christmas on the same day.
A new firmware is actually out today, and will take the PS3 to version 2.36. However, it simply improves system stability. What we’re really looking forward to is firmware version 2.40, which will let us tap the XMB to send messages to mates without having to quit a game first.
Achievement addicts will also be looking forward to the trophy feature. Got the highest ranking in GTA 4 online? Then display your trophy, letting the whole world know how good you are at a glance.
From what we’ve heard these are likely to play a big part in Playstation Home, where PS3 users can interact with each other online. It’s the perfect chance to show off.
No word on a release yet, but it expect it to hit the PS3 within the month. We can’t wait.
