We’re sceptical about this, but it seems Apple bigwig Phil Schiller might have shown off a 3G iPhone with a front-facing camera during the WWDC keynote on Monday, or at least, that’s what it looks like.
Check out the video below, helpfully chopped together by iPhone fan and YouTube user retro8064. It appears to show a camera embedded in the new iPhone’s top left corner.
Could it be real? We seriously doubt it. It’s more likely that’s the handset’s proximity sensor, which is used to switch off the backlight when it’s held to your ear, or the ambient light sensor, which is used to dim the screen.
Still, it does make interesting viewing. We’ve subjected our first-generation iPhone to thorough scrutiny, and there’s definitely nothing similar there. That means Phil was either using a 3G handset, which nobody’s had the chance to closely examine yet, or he had an unannounced prototype.
