Reem B RobotLast night saw the launch of a robot by the name of Reem B and it could mark the beginning of a battle between the more established robot houses in Asia and the technology firms being pumped full of money in the Middle East.

The humainoid robot, designed and built by Pal Technology based in the UAE, showed off the 60kg robot’s abilities as an autonomous robot which looks ready to go head-to-head with Asimo.

Its abilities include face, voice and object recognition, it can have a chat with humans, walk dynamically, recognize and grab objects and accept voice commands.

Reem B also navigates itself around rooms, swerves obstacles and autonomously maps its environment whilst doing so with the help of infrared lasers in its feet.

The designers claim Reem B can carry 25% of its own weight, making it the world’s strongest humanoid robot. It also has a 120 minute battery life (another world’s best claim) and can do stairs either up or down – Bring it on Honda!
