Dyson Hob-bie hobThe floorcare industry is not enough! It looks from this prototype, thrown up by this year’s Dyson Awards, like Mr Dyson is setting his sites on the kitchen next. Look out Hotpoint!

Hob-bie is actually the Spanish entry and merely a runner-up in the annual Dyson gadget fest, but its ingenious energy-saving design could see it pressed into full production one day. Those little dots on the ceramic hob’s surface are sensors that detect the size and shape of your pan so only that area gets hot and no heat is wasted.

Every year the James Dyson Foundation encourages budding young designers to reinvent everyday items, and this time it has thrown up some of the craziest creations. Austria, for example, came up with a pair of underpants that help your posture called Ergoskin, while our firm favourite is the toilet from Japan than analyses your poo to give you dietary advice!
