For high tech toilets, O2’s number 1.Fed up with stinky loos at festivals? You need to get yourself on the VIP list at O2’s Wireless Festival. They’re using NFC technology to safeguard their special guest toilets in the most geeky way.

It comes after O2’s research boffins found the most common festival frustration was dirty toilet facilities.

Their answer? Use technology akin to an Oyster card to only open the door to those with special peeing privileges.

“Selected guests will be able to access luxury toilets on site simply by tapping an NFC wristband to a special reader,” O2 explains, “thus alleviating this festival frustration.” Quite.

The special “VIPee” portaloos can only be accessed by those with the special wristbands. That number includes 100 existing O2 NFC trial participants and up to 200 O2 customers.

Some festival goers will also get a special wristband at random, after being selected by an O2 Angel roaming the fields.
