It’s mere hours until Apple wows crowds with the hugely-anticipated 3G iPhone, but the latest from the rumour mill is that party-poopers Microsoft plan on gatecrashing the party…with a Blu-Ray-enabled Xbox 360.
It would represent a shift for the Big M, having trumpeted the joys of HD-DVD and previously denied they’d offer a Blu-Ray drive. But an insider has let slip plans for an Xbox 360 packing Blu-Ray to the tech fanciers at CrunchGear.
“I‘ve got a close friend who works at Microsoft, previously with the HD-DVD division and now in the E&D division (Xbox, Zune),” the mole told CrunchGear, before teasing.
“I’m told MS will upstage Apple with a Monday 9am PDT announcement (1 hour before WWDC) via press release that the Xbox 360 will get Blu-Ray before Christmas. Price was “under the current Elite”, but i could get any more details.”
So, could Microsoft really be about to rain on Apple’s parade? We’ll be keeping our ears firmly to the ground and our eyes peeled wide open. Watch this space.
