UPDATE: O2 just announced their tariffs for the 3G iPhone in the UK. They’re surprisingly good. Pay enough, and you’ll even get the 3G handset for free.
Steve Jobs just lifted the lid on the 3G iPhone. It might look similar on the outside, but it’s got all the guts to frighten the pants off the smartphone competition.
Inside you’ll find 3G chips to rip data from the sky at blistering speeds, as well as GPS to pin down your location in seconds.
It’s available in black and white, with a plastic back to replace the old version’s aluminium. The buttons on its side are now metal, and there’s the same 3.5 inch touchscreen.
There’s no front-facing camera, so kiss goodbye to any dreams of video chat, but the headphone jack’s been redesigned and is no longer recessed, meaning it’ll work just fine with your existing headphones.
The real kicker is the price. Apple says it’ll cost just $199. That’s £100 for the 8GB version. A 16GB version will cost $299, or £150 in our money.
Out July 11 | From £100
