We know getting on the Blu-Ray ladder can cost the price of a small flat, but the end of the year could see a bonanza of Blu-Ray bargains, with combo drives going for as little as £60.
SonyNEC Optiarc reckon the combo drives, capable of playing Blu-Ray discs and reading and writing DVD’s and CD’s, could be going for as little as £60 in an effort to make Blu-Ray more available to consumers.
Tom’s Hardware reckons “prices have to drop” with the Blu-Ray drives expected “to reach the $100 line before the end of the holiday season.”
Prices for standalone Blu-Ray players are not expected to drop as much, but if manufacturers don’t act there won’t be many adopters of the format in the critical computer market.
We say lower prices for all. Blu-Ray manufacturers, you know it makes sense.
