Remember to turn your PS3 off properlyHold on to your wallets PS3 owners! It looks like the Sony console is burning its own hole in the ozone layer! An Aussie consumer magazine just ran a test to determine how much power games consoles suck up, returning for shocking results.

The consumer magazine Choice wanted to find out how much it would cost to power up certain appliances for a whole year.

While the humble DVD player costs $34.42 to run the Playstation 3 cost a whopping $260. The Xbox 360 didn’t fare too much better, costing $203.

The dinky Wii, on the other hand, notches up a meagre yearly cost of just $24.58.

But fear not gamers, these figures only apply if you leave the power on for 365 days. And who does that? Nobody that’s who.

Just remember to turn those consoles off, watch out for standby modes and flick the switch on the back to be sure.
