Amongst the many, many Apple announcements due on Monday, there’s mounting expectation on Steve Jobs to unveil the public launch of the iPhone App store, finally ushering full-blown applications onto the touchscreen handset.
It’ll mean an end to the months of iPhone owners using web-only applications, or hacking their iPhones to receive unofficial applications.
But before Jobs can open the application floodgates, he’ll have to unleash the iPhone’s next-generation software. That’s the code that’ll transform the iPhone into a proper portable computer, as well as paving the way for a 3G iPhone.
So what’s in store on Monday? It’s looking more likely than ever that we’ll get a new iPhone, an App store, and maybe, just maybe, a suite of new web services called Apple Me too.
