MacTablet: coming in August? We were all set to be “surprised” by a Mac Tablet at WWDC next week, but now we hear the touchscreen computer’s going to be unveiled at a special event later in the year.

According to the gadget-crazed writers at Stuff.tv, they’ve had the nod from a “high profile contact in the computer world” to say there’ll be a major event by Jobs and co to unveil the tablet in August. What’s more, the Mac-maker will also show off new MacBooks then too.

It means the 3G iPhone is free to steal the show at Steve Jobs’ keynote address on Monday, alongside new services (and a new name) for .Mac.

We’re looking for independent confirmation of Apple’s plans for August. In the meantime, join us on our count-down towards WWDC.
