There have been rumours that Microsoft’s planning its own Wii-style remote for the Xbox, and now the same allegations are being pointed at the PS3. Are Sony about to challenge Nintendo at their own game?
That’s exactly what they’re planning, according to the Playstation Lifestyle website.
Keen fans of all things Sony-shaped, they say the company recently conducted a focus group, testing a motion-sensitive pointer for the PS3. Sounds a lot like a Wiimote to us.
According to their report, the device was mounted on a mini tripod, and was seen being used to play tennis, fencing and a paintball game.
It was also used on a laptop to play Quake, the site claims.
Will Sony ever bring such an accessory out of the testing lab though? It’s hard to say. There’s a lot of add-ons already prepped for the PS3, so we wouldn’t be surprised, and with Nintendo continuing to sell Wii consoles by the boatload, it could be just what Sony needs to recapture the lead.
