Spot the difference: Ads now mimic your photosYou’re comfortable with those Google ads that respond to your searches, right? What about ones that respond to your photos?

It seems Facebook is rolling out special ads from Like.com that not only use the text on a page to target advertising at you, but also scan your photos.

Check out this picture from Facebook user Luke Bearden. Notice anything odd? Yep, it appears the site has recognised his aviator sunglasses, and offered a pair it has for sale. Creepy.

Like explains its technology as being “based on more than simple metadata and tags,” and says it’s using Riya’s image recognition technology create a “visual signature” for objects, which it can then find in other photos.

So next time you’re offered an ad on the internet, it could be because you uploaded a specific photo. What do you think? Are the machines getting just a bit too big for their boots? Let us know in the comments section below.
